PENNSYLVANIA POLICYMAKERS

The Pennsylvania House and Senate are in recess until March 10, with three weeks of Budget Hearings scheduled in the interim.

Pennsylvania House

The House Children and Youth Committee held an informal meeting on Monday to discuss the challenges facing schools in members’ legislative districts and associated funding issues. For more information, contact the office of Committee Chair Louise Bishop at (717) 783-2192.

Pennsylvania Bulletin

The Pennsylvania Department of Health has released proposed regulations that would make changes to the immunization requirements for school attendance. A copy of the proposed changes is available in the February 9 edition of the Pennsylvania Bulletin. Comments on the proposed regulatory changes will be accepted by the Department of Health through March 10.

PENNSYLVANIA SCHOOL FUNDING CAMPAIGN

The Pennsylvania School Funding Campaign is building a presence throughout the state to generate support for legislation and sufficient funding to establish a new statewide K-12 funding system. The Campaign intends to organize in every legislative district and is developing a statewide network of organizations and individuals committed to supporting the school funding reform effort.

You can get more information and sign-up as a Campaign Partner at www.paschoolfunding.org. The Campaign web site also provides information about Governor Rendell’s new education budget proposal for 2008-2009 and the 2007 Costing-Out Study.




2008 PA EDUCATION POLICY AND LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

The 2008 Pennsylvania Education Policy and Leadership Conference will be held at the Sheraton Harrisburg-Hershey Hotel on March 13-14. See the Agenda and Registration Information at http://www.eplc.org/conference.html. Hotel room block closes February 28. Early-bird registration closes March 3.
